Sekou Writes calls himself a “professional creative.” He’s a writer, editor, playwright, reviewer of high-end cars, motivational speaker, jewelry maker, podcaster, teacher, and much more. He splits his time between Nashville, TN and New York City…and started running when he was stuck in Nashville at the start of the Pandemic.
Starting June 1, 2021, Sekou set himself a challenge to run every single day, for at least 1 mile a day, for 30 days. And he never stopped! In the process, he inspired many others to start running (including me!) and people started donating money to him so he could donate to a Nashville organization called Project Lovestrong which helps unhoused people improve their life situations.
Without planning to, Sekou created a movement that he now calls the “Sekou Hero Charity Run” and he’s donated thousands of dollars to over ten different causes.
In July, 2022, he was training to run in the NY City Marathon to raise money for an organization called Back On My Feet when he got knocked off of HIS feet by a serious stroke. Less than 4 months later, after suffering paralysis, amnesia, and aphasia, Sekou walked the NY City Marathon on November 6th, 2022! Correction!! He RAN it!! In 6 hours, 55 minutes!!!
He’s not done. He’s still raising money for the Transformation Life Center in Nashville.

And, as Sekou says: “Be a HERO. Be your own HERO. And remember that NOW is better than Perfect.”
